MSO-HNS Newsletter Volume 10

Message from the President

Greetings from the desk of the Outgoing President. I feel really honored and privileged to have served the Malaysian Society of Otorhinolaryngologists – Head and Neck Surgeons (MSO-HNS). Time flies and I wish I could have done more for the Society in the year 2016 – 2017.

For the past 12 months, the Executive Committee Members have worked hard to carry out the activities to benefit every strata of the membership as well as the public. I must thank Dr Norhafiza Mat Lazim who has gathered and edited the materials for this newsletter. The inaugural collaboration with the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society was in the form of ENT Course for Pharmacy at three different venues in Peninsular Malaysia in addition to the regular ENT Primary Care Workshops that were carried out in four different states including Sabah and Sarawak. I believe these educational activities provided opportunities for our members to have experience to speak to different groups of audience as well as to get to know the members from various hospitals and institutions. Indirectly, I believe this has strenghtened the fellowship amongst the Society members. I would like to thank all the members of the Society who have contributed to and supported these programmes unstintingly. I welcome you all to visit the Society website. This will allow us to function better as we should in this digital age. We have done our best to make it more informative and easily accessible. This year our Society has also improved the service on the group email to members as well disseminated update programmes and shared achievement of our members at both the national or international level. Our Society has matured over years and our members had been conferred various awards that we should be proud of. I hope all of you have time to check out the achievements on the Society website and congratulate them.

Malacca has been chosen as the venue for the 9th Malaysian International ORL-HNS Congress, in conjunction with the 37th Annual General Meeting of the MSO-HNS. The Congress has not been held there before and it would be good to benefit the local members. I am sure members will agree that Malacca is a rewarding town to explore and is about two hours’ drive from Kuala Lumpur. Nevertheless, the pre and post congress workshops have been arranged at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur for Paediatric Airway and FESS workshops and collaboration with the Manipal Medical College for the Tracheostomy workshop in Malacca. Two of the Clinical Practice Guidelines by the Ministry of Health namely Management of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma and Management of Rhinosinusitis in Adolescent and Adults will be launched during the Opening Ceremony. I congratulate all the professionals who were involved in the preparation of the CPGs as well as the launching of guidelines.

Please join me in congratulating and thanking the tireless team of able and talented members of the Executive Committee and the Organising Committee who have made these 12 months eventful and the 37th AGM and Congress a great success. I sincerely believe that they have been a great example of how teamwork and bold execution can make any wish come true. On this note, I wish Dr Ramiza Ramza Ramli, the incoming President, all the best. I have full confidence that he will bring us to greater heights and I urge the Society and members to fully support him in his plans and programme in the same manner as you have supported me. To go first you have to walk alone, if you want to go further you have to walk together. Let’s work together and aim at achieving the common goal and objectives of our Society.
